Know the crop

Minnesota Extension explains that lettuce favors cool conditions and can bolt as heat and day length increase. Leaf harvest and whole-plant harvest are different plans; use the seed packet’s spacing for the chosen variety and method.

Map the space

Record the usable growing footprint and when it receives sun. Do not turn an attractive illustration into a claim that a particular plant count will fit any box. Check the planter’s internal depth and the cultivar’s guidance before calculating the purchase.

Plan a modest first sowing

Label the date and variety, then track germination and growth. Reserve some seed instead of automatically sowing the whole packet. Keep your watering access simple so you can inspect the mix regularly without moving heavy furniture.
